Halal meat is produced for the islamic community, but are you aware of how it's produced and how often you eat it?
Despite claims of a humane death, it is quite clear that cutting the throat of a live animal will cause a slow and agonising death, which can take minutes rather than seconds. Imagine someone cutting your throat... imagine the sensation of blood squirting out at high pressure, you see the blood and feel the pain. You start to loose energy and slowly faint as the blood feed to your brain stops. Eventually the lights fade out, the last thing you remember feeling was the pain of the knife slitting your throat.
This is a disgusting and barbaric method of killing animals and should be outlawed by any civilised government. The importing of such meat should also be outlawed. Why are we allowing such a barbaric system in our countries?
Did you know a lot of halal meat is already in the UK food chain? If you eat meat, you *HAVE* had halal and you *HAVE* had a LOT of halal! Why you ask? Because if they produce non-halal in the abattoir they can NOT produce halal - so they simply do all meat in that abattoir as halal!
What can you do about it?
There are several things you can do, but asking the major supermarkets some questions will let them know that you know what they are up to. Also ask your local MP why this method of slaughter is allowed. Make friends aware of the madness happening behind the scenes.
It should be noted that meat slaughtered as halal will become haram should it be displayed or served with haram - i.e. if anything does not comply with the halal rules from slaughter to eating, the meat immediately becomes haram! Many restaurants are selling meat that was slaughtered as halal but truthfully claiming it is not halal (because it has been served alongside pork or something else has made it become haram). The question to ask is not “is this meat halal” it is “was this meat slaughtered as halal”.
Your safest option for buying meat is a local butcher who knows exactly where his meat comes from.
There are several news stories on this site which cover halal meat, but be warned some of the images and video clips are barbaric and should not be viewed if you don't like blood - to see a list of relevant news stories, click HERE.
Red Tractor - a logo to look out for when buying meat. It guarantees the animals are stunned before slaughter. However, it doesn't mean the meat is not halal (though in the eyes of the Halal Monitoring Committee, meat can NOT be halal if it has been stunned - though the Halal Food Authority differ in this respect). They claim that stunned halal meat may have the Red Tractor logo - though as the koran specifically says the animal must be consious to hear the prayer, if it's stunned, it can't be halal. More on the Red tractor HERE.
The HMC (Halal Monitoring Committee) say in their document HERE that meat must not be stunned, but HFA (Halal Food Authority) say in their document HERE that it can - however, read on the same page about the concerns regarding how effective their very limited stunning is.
Facebook users can follow a group called Boycott Halal which can be found HERE or see their website HERE.
Although I was never a fan of fox hunting, it was an English tradition which was banned as more and more people thought it to be a barbaric act. However, why is the slaughter of halal meat accepted and why do laws allow it? It is as painful for the millions of slaughtered animals as fox hunting was, though is accepted by our government to please an unwanted minority.

- Do you support the barbaric method of killing animals, i.e. slitting their throats so they bleed to an agonising death over a period of some times several minutes?
- The quran specifically says the animal must be fully conscious so it can hear the prayer (pathetic I know!) at the time it's throat is cut, so stunned halal is, in fact, NOT halal - were you aware of this?
- Can you assure me that any meat supplied by you is NOT halal unless it is specifically marked as such? Including processed meat in burgers and ready meals?
- Would you support clearly marking meat as non-halal?
Always remember to be polite, calling names or being otherwise abusive will most likely result in your message being deleted with no reply.
